The NSF-sponsored Materials Research Science and Engineering Center at the University of Wisconsin – Madison (UW MRSEC) is focused on the fundamental study of the structure and properties of interfaces at the nanoscale level of atoms and molecules. It is doing so across a wide array of materials platforms, from inorganic semiconducting materials to liquid crystals with engineered defects.

The UW AMIC acknowledges the past support of the students and faculty of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Nanoscale Science and Engineering Center on Templated Synthesis and Assembly at the Nanoscale. This center was active from 2004 - 2014, funded by the National Science Foundation, and addressed grand challenges associated with directed assembly of nanoscale materials into functional systems and architectures through the use of self-assembly, chemical patterning, and external fields.
