The University of Wisconsin Advanced Materials Industrial Consortium (AMIC) is soliciting proposals for short-term, collaborative research projects that address a current or anticipated need in advanced materials and/or manufacturing. To develop a proposal, the student or postdoc contacts the member company and works with them to formulate a project plan of appropriate focus and scope, guided by mutual interests.

Benefits of Participation

This Seed Program is intended to be an opportunity for graduate students and/or postdocs to gain experience working on projects of interest to industry. Participants will get an inside look at the problems and challenges facing industry while getting an opportunity to develop solutions. Participants will also gain experience in funded research from proposal development through final reporting.

Scope of Seed Projects

Projects will be awarded for up to 12 months, with the potential for renewal. Projects will be conducted by a UW–Madison graduate students and/or postdocs individually or in small teams, working with an engineer from an AMIC member company, and advised by a UW–Madison faculty member. All awarded projects will submit a brief report to the AMIC Board of Directors and present results at the AMIC Annual Meeting or another event.
